Agenda
This
year, the Sun-Earth Connection (SEC) Theme will conduct its 3rd
Roadmap exercise. Every
three years, the Theme must update its strategic plan, and the input
to this plan comes from the Roadmap Committee report. The strategic plan and the roadmap describe SEC science
objectives and, ultimately, the SEC strategic missions (e.g., STEREO,
Magnetosphen'c Multiscale, Solar Dynamics Observatory) that address
these science objectives. This
year's SEC Roadmap Committee chair is Stephen Fuselier and its
co-chair is Thomas Duvall.
The
roadmap committee invites the SEC community to an open forum to be
held at
the Marriott Hotel, (6400 Ivy Lane, Greenbelt, MD 20770;
301-441-3700 (Directions) on March 4-5, 2002.The purpose of this two-day forum is to give the SEC
community the opportunity to provide direct input into the roadmap
process. The forum will
begin with a one-day poster session focused on SEC science
objectives, technology development, and missions.
There will be no oral presentations. Following the poster session, there will be a half-day of
break-out sessions by discipline (solar, heliospheric,
magnetospheric, ITM) to discuss SEC science objectives for the near,
intermediate, and long-term. The
forum will conclude with presentations and community discussion of
the results from the break-out sessions.
There is no registration fee, but all
participants are requested to register at their earliest
convenience. The
registration site is required to reserve poster space.
If
you wish to contribute a poster, then a title and a 1-2 sentence
description should be included in the space provided on the
registration form below.
Poster
presentations on SEC science objectives and research focus areas are
solicited. The
current list of objectives with their research focus areas are
listed in the Space Science
Enterprise Strategic Plan at http://spacescience.nasa.,gov/admin/pubs/index.htm
Posters
may address (1) these science objectives and research focus areas
(or their revision or augmentation), (2) the technology and/or
theory development required to achieve objectives, or (3) missions
that address specific focus areas. In addition to the poster (standard AGU size, 4x8 feet),
presenters are required to produce a two page summary of the poster
for both (a) distribution on the roadmap website and (b) to the
community (bring copies to the poster presentation). The first page of the summary must address the following
issues (in the following order), (1) the fundamental question that
is addressed and (2) why this question is important, (3) the science
objectives, (4) the mission (or technology, or science) description,
(5) the measurement strategies, and (6) the technology requirements.
The second page is optional, containing further explanation,
motivation, Justification, etc. of the (required) first page.
Illustrations are allowed on either page.
